Dance Styles

  • General

Classes are taught in a fun and friendly way, but also with a focus on discipline. All of the dance styles help to promote a fit and healthy lifestyle. Some classes follow a syllabus whereby a child may be invited to take an exam, enabling them to progress onto the next grade once they have reached the required standard. All adult classes follow a more relaxed and social approach.

Most of the children’s classes have a uniform requirement. This follows on with the discipline side of the dance world and also provides the child with a sense of unity and pride when they attend classes. Uniform can be ordered through me. However, should you wish to buy it in a dance wear shop, it must be compliant with the school uniform and in the required makes and colours.

Uniform must be purchased and worn to class within 6 weeks of joining.

If appropriate attire is not worn to class, I/ the teacher reserve the right to ask the child to sit out of certain parts of the lesson for health and safety reasons if I feel it is necessary.

    Trial Classes
If you, or your child, are trying out a class for the first time, please wear loose fitting clothing or stretchy/Lycra type fabric. For the feet:-

    Ballet - bare feet
    Modern - bare feet
Tap - most outdoor shoes are usually fine, although trainers are not usually advisable due to the tread.

  • Ballet

    Ballet
Ballet is one of the most disciplined forms of the art and is also a solid foundation for most other dance styles. The baby ballet classes are based around mime and imagery whilst teaching the basic dance skills. This leads gradually into the ballet class format which they progress onto as they enter the graded classes.

  • Modern / Jazz

    Modern/Jazz
Modern dance genre spans a broad range of styles including jazz, pop, musical theatre and sometimes bordering on contemporary. A wide range of music is also used from pop to lyrical and the student becomes aware of how to express the different styles. Classes often integrate limbering and stretching to enable the student to become well-rounded and versatile dancers. Co-ordination and balance is also developed from an early age.

  • Tap

    Tap
Tap is one of the most fun & enjoyable forms of dance and you really do get quite a workout without realising! So many different rhythms can be created with all the different steps in this dance form and once a step has been mastered, the faster it can be performed! A routine is also learnt and worked on through every term/ half term.

    Classes
Fusion School of Dance currently has classes in tap for adult beginners. If your child is interested, or you are an adult who is more advanced in tap, please let me know so I can build numbers and arrange a class when there is enough interest.

  • Street

    Street
If you have ever wanted to learn the types of moves in the newest music videos or the dance films, then this is the class for you. The routines are set to the most up-to-date chart music. Classes are high-energy, fast-paced and fun and enable the student to find their own personal style with the latest moves.

    Uniform
There is a fairly casual policy on uniform for the street classes. Trousers should be loose, or if tight fitting, must be stretchy fabric (e.g. leggings, jazz pants). Footwear can either be trainers, jazz shoes or alternatively bare feet. The following items of clothing should NOT be worn to class: Skirts, denim, hot pants, pumps.

Girl’s hair must be tied up and off the face.

If appropriate attire is not worn to class, I/ the teacher reserve the right to ask the child to sit out of certain pStreetDancerarts of the lesson for health and safety reasons if I feel it is necessary.
